Welcome to our wonderful school!  The Avenue Infant School is a nurturing, inclusive school in the heart of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.  Our dedicated, brilliant staff work tirelessly to give each and every child the best possible start to their school life.  At the heart of all we do is our aim to nurture the talents of every child to develop strong foundations for future learning.

At The Avenue Infant School, we recognise our vital role in preparing our pupils for life-long learning and personal development so they can thrive.  As such we offer a school-wide play-based approach to learning (known as ‘Continuous Provision’), from Reception to Year 2, meaning children gain the knowledge and skills of the curriculum in a context that is meaningful, engaging and exciting to them.  Our adults in school skilfully support, scaffold and challenge each child through the classroom provision, carefully chosen and wide-ranging resources and nurturing interaction so pupils progress and achieve well, from their individual starting points.  Our play-based approach is well-regarded locally and, as such, we offer school-to-school training, endorsed by the local authority.

Our children quickly become determined and focused learners, resilient problem solvers and collaborative listeners – vital skills for their education and future employment.

Our curriculum is designed for our children and we are incredibly proud of our unique offer and approach.  Our teachers deliver short, quality teaching inputs at points during the day and between these the children have extended periods of time to apply their learning.  We strongly believe children learn best in active play, in hands-on experiences they have chosen to demonstrate the learning they are developing, NOT sitting still at desks, waiting for their peers to finish or catch-up with a given task.  Instead, their days are driven by curiosity, movement, communication, collaboration.  Their learning is organic, not forced, and they have ownership over their learning.  Fundamentally, our children are being children and discovering that learning is joyful!
