Summer Term 1

April 2025

Beech class have had a wonderful afternoon starting our Sculpture topic. We looked at a range of sculptures made from different materials and shared our opinions on them. We then had a go at making our own sculptures out of Play doh. We had some super ideas!

May 2025

This term Hazel Class have started learning about sculpture in Art. Last week we created our own playdough sculptures and this week we moved onto creating 3D paper sculptures! I was very impressed with the excellent sculptures the children created!

This morning, Year 2 went on a local walk around Wellingborough to help them with their History learning. This term we have been learning about the recent and ancient history of Wellingborough, which the children have been very interested in! The children enjoyed spotting lots of different signs of the past and discussing whether things have changed or not over time. This afternoon they will be completing a piece of writing about what they saw. I wonder if your children can remember any of the facts they learnt on our walk?

Beech class had a lovely Science lesson designing ‘bug hotels’. We used our knowledge of minibeasts and microhabitats from this term to choose suitable materials. Once we had made them we found a nice spot for them in the playground. If you would like to make your own at home it is very simple. Just fill a plastic bottle with the ends cut off with bits and pieces you find on your nature walks and around your garden and see who moves in!

This morning, Hazel Class finished their Art topic by creating their own sculpture in the style of Alberto Giacometti! The children used pipe cleaners to create the skeleton of their sculpture and then tin foil to create the body and make it more stable. The children have loved this topic and I was very impressed by their excellent sculptures!
