Born in Wellingborough, my life at The Avenue began 21 years ago when I was elected as a Parent Governor following the enrolment of my son and subsequently my daughter at the school. Having spent 30 years working for a locally based international construction company part of my responsibilities at the school lies with the maintenance and renovations of the building along with the overall day to day Health and Safety of the school and its occupants in my role as Health and Safety Governor.

Originally I became a Parent Governor at The Avenue in June 2016.  Both my children attended The Avenue.  I have lived in Wellingborough for 15 years and work in the NHS, as a Nurse Practitioner.   In my career I possess skills that can be transferred to help support the support.  As a parent. it gave me the experience and knowledge of how the school is performing and its development.   It gives me great pride in knowing  I am supporting it. Recently I became a LA Governor after my term of office as a parent governor ended. During my  time,  I have been involved in the Head teachers Performance ensuring that targets are set for the Head teacher in line with current requirements, as set out in our School Development Plan.  I am the Chair of the Staffing Committee and I also sit on the Standards and Quality Committee.  I feel privileged to be part of the Governing Body to help ensure that standards of learning are kept high and that the school is a safe and happy environment for children and staff alike.  It is a role that I am enjoying thoroughly.

I became a school governor shortly after my children, now 18 and 23 started school.  I have lived in Wellingborough all of my life, and was educated locally.  I trained as an electronics technician and spent the last 12 years of my working life as a technical project officer, supporting physics research at The Open University.  I have always had a practical approach to problem solving and try to use this quality to help support the school in any way I can to help ensure it always has the best learning and working environment for the children and staff alike.

My name is Helen Morrall.  I have been the headteacher of the school since September 2015.  I have past and current experience on two other governing bodies, one of which is my daughter's school.  The role of governors is fundamental to the effective and smooth running of a school and I very much value the support, skills and experience brought by our governors.

Having been a pupil at The Avenue I feel privileged to be a co-opted governor at the school.  The role of a school governor is to provide strategic leadership and to create robust accountability.  It provides an opportunity to support The Avenue to maintain and improve upon the excellent standards already in place. This in turn can help the children to thrive, learn effectively and maximise their potential.

I believe my professional skill set compliments that of the established and  conscientious team of people at the school.
