Child Protection/Safeguarding Governor

I have been a Parent Governor at The Avenue since June 2016.  My youngest child is currently in year 1 and my eldest also attended  the school.  I have lived in Wellingborough for 13 years and work in the NHS, as a Nurse Practitioner.   In my career I possess skills that can be transferred to help support the support.  As a parent. it has given me the experience and knowledge of how the school is performing and its development.  It gives me great pride in knowing  I am supporting it.  During the short time, I have been a governor, I have been involved in the Head teachers Performance ensuring that targets are set for the Head teacher in line with current requirements, as set out in our School Development Plan.  I also sit on the Standards and Quality Committee.  I feel priviledged to be part of the Governing Body to help ensure that standards of learning are kept high and that the school is a safe and happy environment for children and staff alike.  It is a role that I am enjoying throughly.

I became a school governor shortly after my children, now 16 and 21 started school.  I have lived in Wellingborough all of my life, and was educated locally.  I trained as an electronics technician and spent the last 12 years of my working life as a technical project officer, supporting physics research at The Open University.  I have always had a practical approach to problem solving and try to use this quality to help support the school in any way I can to help ensure it always has the best learning and working environment for the children and staff alike.

I have worked as the deputy head teacher at  The Avenue Infant School since Easter 2017 and  have previously taught in a large primary school in Milton Keynes.  I have experience in both key stage one and key stage two, so know how important the beginning years of schooling are to any child.  I currently teach in year 2 and am also on the senior leadership team. I was voted to be the staff representative by other staff members.  I am excited to be part of the governing body as it is a great opportunity to develop my skills further and support the school further in providing the best education for our children.
