Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

My name in Louise Lucas and I am the Special Educational Needs and disabilities Co-Ordinator for The Avenue Infant School.

The Avenue Infant School is an inclusive school.  We believe that all children should achieve and this includes vulnerable learners too.  We endeavour to meet the needs of all the children in our school and make every effort to close the gap in attainment.  The teachers provide differentiated learning opportunities and we focus on individual progress as an indicator of success.

We ensure that children with Special Educational needs and disabilities have every opportunity to attain and achieve in line with their peers.  We carefully plan individualised learning programmes  which highlight the learning difficulties and set targets.  We believe that it is essential to involve parents/carers, teachers and children in the reviewing process and will have regular meetings to discuss and share information.  We might sometimes need to involve outside agencies to make assessments to support us in planning and resourcing specific learning needs.

Attached to this page is a link to "The Local Offer", this is a site where all information about services for children and young people with Special Educational needs and disabilities is written down in one place.  It tells you who will make decisions, and when decisions are made.  It is a way of professionals, schools and parents working together.  The services provided are Nurses, Psychologists, Speech and Language, Social Workers and Early Help.
